Just a quick question: When (the heck!) did “family movies” become PG rated?

To put it another way: when did violence and “questionable” content become “family” material?

Try to find a “G” rated movie these days. G-rating seems to have gone the way of 8-tracks and floppy disks(1).

Personally, I don’t object. But I know that children under a certain age (say 75 or so) should NOT be saturated with images of violence and such. Even minor violence (if there is such a thing). It makes a lasting impression. More than you know.

Really.

“Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (Tom Hanks) — PG
“Christopher Robin” (Ewan McGregor) — PG
“Soul” (Pixar) — PG
“UP” (Pixar) — PG

Wow…

Just a thought…

(1) “LPs” (records, vinyl, black pizza, dig?) on the other hand are making a come back. So, things and “times long forgotten” [which, by the way, is — more or less — what “auld lang syne” means] don’t always stay lost. Thank Goodness. And, just for accuracy, there are some “G” rated movies still being released, but they are few and far between. Even Pixar movies tend to be PG / PG-13.
